GpgOL: Outlook does not start in case of old version of .ost file
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

This did occur for VS-Desktop-3.3.90.6-Beta, too.
It does not occur for VSD 3.3.0, were Outlook notifies after start up that the .ost files are old an need to be deleted.

When installing the testversion on a fresh VM where the .ost files of the configured mail accounts are "old", Outlook does not start. The outlook.exe can be seen for some seconds in the process explorer and then disappears.

Debugview has:

107	111.804704	9088	OUTLOOK.EXE	Warning: AddWebResourceRequestedFilter without SourceKind parameter is deprecated! It does not behave as expected for iframes. Please use AddWebResourceRequestedFilterWithRequestSourceKinds instead. For more information, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2286319

109	112.777892	9088	OUTLOOK.EXE	<process started at 16:04:26.663 has terminated with exit code 0>

in an other instance it was:

It does not behave as expected for iframes. Please use AddWebResourceRequestedFilterWithRequestSourceKinds instead. For more information, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2286319

Deinstalling the Beta-version and installing 3.3.0 on the same VM does result in Outlook starting again

Event Timeline

ebo claimed this task.
ebo removed a project: vsd33.

turns out that this seems to be a timing issue/race condition and disappears if more debug output is added

This situation should happen seldom and it is easy to work around the issue by deleting the .ost file(s) in %APPDATALOCAL%. After that Outlook starts fine.

So if Outlook does not start after GpgOL was installed, first support step should be to recommend deleting those.
