Kleopatra: Disable smartcard actions if a factory reset is needed
Open, WishlistPublic

Description

When a smartcard is irrevocably blocked (PIN: 0, PUK: 0, Admin PIN: 0), all actions on the smartcard dialog will result in errors.
In this case, the menu (or all menu items) could just be deactivated, and a helpful message could be displayed (e.g. below the menu or on top as a banner) to explain the state.

Suggestion for the content of the message:

  • Color: Warning style (red)
  • Icon: Warning
  • Text: This card cannot be unblocked, no remaining PIN/PUK/Admin PIN attempts are left. The keys on this card are lost. You may factory reset the card to be able to reuse it with new keys.

Remarks:

  • Trying to generate new keys in this state will currently lead to an unhelpful "card error":
  • Would be a factory reset via Kleopatra possible and desired? (only accessible via button in the message to prevent user mistakes) not desired

Split from T6425: improve pinentry behavior and texts in smart card context

We explicitly don't want potentially disastrous low-level card operations like a factory reset to be possible from within Kleopatra.
