Debian Vs Everyone: docbook-to-man Vs. docbook2man
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Release: 1.2.3-cvs

Environment

Linux (Redhat 8)

Description

The configure script doesn't find docbook --> man on Redhat systems as the program is called docbook2man, rather than docbook-to-man as the config file defines it.

Googling for 'docbook-to-man' and 'docbook2man' it seems that primarily Debian uses the '-to-' syntax whilst most other instances are docbook2man. I can't be sure about this as I only have Redhat machines to compare against though...

Fix

Not sure. Check for both docbook-to-man and docbook2man?

Event Timeline

docbook-to-man and docbook2man are different tools. IIRC, I
used the other one for some time but it had a couple of
problems.

Future versions won't use Docbook anymore so this is only an
issue for the current stable version.

Recently switched to another db2man package. That might
help even on RedHat. Anyway closing this becuase we want to
move away from docbook.
