Currently, the only executable that has the version number set is the
uninstaller. Could this be added to other exes, at least gpg.exe?

I'm referring to the version # that is displayed in the file properties in
Windows Explorer. This is used by Software Update Monitor to check what version
you have and is compared to the latest version online to advise that you need to
upgrade.

In GnuPG 2.1 most binaries carry version information and an icon.
We won't port that back to GnuPG 2.0.
