gpg --card-status works while gpg2 --card-status does not work

Description

I have two debian boxes same toshiba make and model.

One of the box both gpg2 and gpg works with pinentry and OpenPGP-applet with ccid
tokens.

the other box I tried reinstalling with --purge option but only gpg --card-status
works and gpg2 --card-status does not work and does not recognize the card.
