gpq --gen-key fails to accept even the model Real Name
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Release: 1.4.1

Environment

gnupg-1.4.1 on SuSE linux 9.2 on a laptop with chip i686

I used sha1sum to verify the checksum for gnupg-1.4.1.tar.bz2

Description

gpq --gen-key will not accept a Real Name in the form stated

I do not know enough to rate the severity nor criticalness of the problem.

How To Repeat

gpq --gen-key
down to step
You need a user ID to identify your key; the software constructs the user ID
from the Real Name, Comment and Email Address in this form:

"Heinrich Heine (Der Dichter)<heinrichh@duesseldorf.de>"

Real name: Heinrich Heine (Der Dichter)<heinrichh@duesseldorf.de>
Invalid character in name

Same thing happens if I insert quotes (")

User error. Please read the prompt. It says "constructs the
ID from Real Name, Comment and Email". Thus you are
presented with 3 prompts. The first for the Real Name, the
second for the email address and the third for a comment
field. Then comes a menu allowing you to change the parts
again.
