gpg4win: Installer creates GnuPG dir regardless of chosen install target
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When I chose e. g. C:\target\gpg as install location, the installer still does:

  • Create C:\target\GnuPG next to C:\target\gpg
  • Set path to $PATH;C:\target\gpg\..\GnuPG

I always end up merging the two directories together (contents do not seem to be equal), deleting the superfluous GnuPG dir and adapting the system's path variable.

Cannot remember if there even was a time where this was not the case, i. e. this behavior exists since a long time already.

Is this "works as designed" or am I missing something?

Yes, that's by design. GnuPG is always installed in $INSTDIR\..\GnuPG by the gpg4win installer.

Actually I would like to remove the option to install gpg4win at non-standard places because this is somewhat troublesome. However some users rely on this and thus we better don't remove i.

The reason for installing into two directories is that this allows to updated gnupg from a gnupg only nsis installer.
