This is actually the same behavior as on linux (but probably still undesirable)

  • Invoking pinentry-qt directly, then issuing GETPIN gives "pinentry-qt" as title.
    • This is defined in pinentry-qt, qt/main.cpp qt_cmd_handler() if no title was specified.
  • Invoking pinentry-qt via gpg-agent, gives "[PID]@hostname cmdline-if-retrievable"
    • This is defined as default title in pinentry/pinentry.c pinentry_get_title() for platforms other than Windows, *if* there is an "owner" pid. In this case, therefore, the title is not empty, and "pinentry-qt" is not applied.

Not sure, which behavior we want.

After discussion:

  • We would prefer to change this to a user friendly name on both mac and linux
  • Best would be an additional string, which the name of the parent process, which started the pinentry, e.g. something like "Pinentry (started via Kleopatra)"
