Documentation error - trust validation
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello,

Sorry if I am not at the right place to submit this error but I didn't find any
other way to do it.
In the GnuPG manual (https://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.pdf) page 24-25, it's
mentionned that a key has to be signed by " by three marginally trusted keys"
whereas in the example p 25:
"Since two marginally trusted keys are needed to fully validate a key,
Chloe’s key will be considered fully valid, but Francis’s key will be considered
only marginally valid." In my opinion the chloé"s key shouldn't be valid because
only two marginal have signed the chloé's key?The Francis key shouldn't be valid
too in that case.

Thank you for your report.

I think the document is right. Yes, it's somehow confusing.

It explain "two conditions" using GPG default values, but then,
it says : "This example assumes that two marginally-trusted keys
or one fully-trusted key is needed to validate another key.
The maximum path length is three."

It would be better explaining with default values, though.

Thank you for the feedback.

You're right, I don't kwnow why I didn't see it. I was blocked on the default value.
