explorer context menu items do not start Kleopatra
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System is Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
In windows explorer, select a xxx.asc file (encrypted by gpg4win).
If Kleopatra is NOT started, clicking on one of the context menu items e.g. "Decrypt and verify" results in the error message "Can not connect to the GnuPG user interface: General error"
If Kleopatra IS started, clicking on the context menu item works.
That means, the explorer context menu items do not start Kleopatra.

Double-click on the xxx.asc file does start Kleopatra and successfully starts the decryption process.

The only way I can think of that this fails if that there are some old files from a gpg4win installation that was not cleanly removed lying around and failing to start.

Could you check if the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\GNU\GnuPG still exists and points to some location where maybe a kleopatra.exe is still lying around?

The new reg key for Gpg4win-3.0 should be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Gpg4win

Thanks

We did not have more reports about this so I'm resolving it here.

Still I think the connection between GpgEX and Kleopatra / GPA could be more robust if direct process calls were used. I've opened a task for this: T4030
