Unsupported Protocol means that GpgOL can't find your GnuPG installation. Maybe something went wrong during the install of Gpg4win?

Please try to install GnuPG directly and not part of Gpg4win. An Installer for it can be found at https://gnupg.org/download/index.html .

What could be improved here: We could catch unsupported Protocol in GpgOL and print an error message which basically says what I wrote here.

In another report, it turned out to be, that with a 64 bit outlook and GnuPG not installed in the standard location it came to this error. ( T3988 )

If you happend to install GnuPG/Gpg4win not in the default location and use a 64 Bit Windows System you can:

Open regedit, and take a look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GnuPG (in Windows 10 you can also paste that path into the address line, similar as with the explorer)
In that case, if you do see a string value named "Install Directory" - above error applies to you. For a temporary solution you could copy that path, create the following key:

HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\GnuPG - with the string "Install Directory" and paste the copied path into.

If you don't have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GnuPG (you either might be using a 32 Bit System and should have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GnuPG with "Install Directory", else:) so you don't have a "GnuPG" Reg-Key or the "Install Directory" string at all, something might gone wrong with your installation. You might try to reinstall GPG4Win again.

It would be great if you could confirm or not if this is also your problem.
