gpg(1) says in mutiple places:

Option --keyserver must be used to give the name of the keyserver

but it also says:

--keyserver name
      This option is deprecated - please use the --keyserver in ‘dirmngr.conf’ instead.

I think i understand how we got here from a legacy perspective, but it's pretty confusing to a new user.

The documentation should be clarified.
