Move away from email-address as client mapping key

See T7972.

This commit is a just a proof of concept, and does not contain dynamic
pairing, yet.

Includes several simplifications by handling the boilerplate code around
message passing in common functions. This should also make it much
easier to further refine the protocol (such as, potentially, encrypting
the communication).
