I give this normal priority even if it is a whish because I have the same whish and already have some code around that would make it more comfortable, especially if it is used directly in GpgOL.

Strange. Can you please go to the command line (cmd.exe) and run gpg --verify "c:\<path to>\gpg4win-3.1.10.exe.sig" "c:\<path to>\gpg4win-3.1.10.exe.sig"

This pretty much matches my test setup. As the crash is in GPGME it is out of Kleopatra's hand. So I'll try to write a test that repeats such a signing for lots of times. I think this is probably some random race condition.
I don't think I can reproduce it, at least it didn't happen anymore after restarting and continuing the imports. AFAIR it happened after importing the "Master Key", during trying to import the "Release Key" from https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/keys.html
Ah and maybe one more hint: I have several keypairs, so the dialog for choosing the keypair to be used appears in the next step.

Kleopatra was already using this keyserver at the time i took the screenshots, which is why i opened the ticket since it was working in the command line.

Hello,
I have no idea – I’m not familiar with cmd.exe – Do you have step by step instructions on how to do this?
Many thanks,

Subject: [Task] [Claimed] T4581: Kleopatra stuck in loading the certificate cache
aheinecke triaged this task as "Normal" priority.

Hi,
can you please open the console (cmd.exe) and do a "gpg -K" and "gpgsm -K"
do these commands list all your secret keys or do they hang?
Also please try killing the process "gpg-agent.exe" through the Task manager and try to open Kleopatra again.
Regards,
Andre

Welcome back from vacation!
@aheinecke Yes I am 1000% sure the passphrase is "dave" without the quotes.
These are the commands I use for the encrypt using the IBM Encryption Facility:
-o '/home/suimgwy/_july1.pbe' \
-s2k-cipher-name AES_256 -s2k-digest-name SHA256 -s2k-mode 3 \
-s2k-passphrase dave \
-t ISO-8859-1 \
-use-mdc \
-c '/home/suimgwy/_input.txt'
<<<
back from vacation so apologies for the delay. @werner This is reproducible on the command line without Kleopatra. So maybe something for you our Gniibe to look into?
Keyserver issues are always hard to analyze because the state of the servers and which server you get is always a factor.
Werner: I'm assigning this to you. Because the underlying reason is a missing status from gpg. I think we should add that for 2.3 as any new status line tends to break things.
can you please open the console (cmd.exe) and do a "gpg -K" and "gpgsm -K"

Hello,
when can we fix it?

Log loops with:
I have a hang now when keylisting in Kleo with GPGME_DEBUG=9:

May 20 2019
May 17 2019
I guess you are the only person who does it. But yeah. I agree that it should be fixed.
May 16 2019
That was obvious. rG6fc5df1e10129f3171d80cf731f310b9e8d97c26 fixes this.
When doing a "gpgsm --with-validation -k foo" (assuming you have a cert foo) gpgsm now goes into a loop and prints the certficates that match "foo" over and over again. I have not tested if it was caused by this change but I think it is likely.
I imported 39 certificate files at once with Kleopatra with about 700 certificates and it worked. Took a long time though so It would be nice if Kleopatra would show a progess indicator or some indication that the import is running. But this is a different issue.

The last lines that the process currently holding wrote in the log:
To reproduce this issue I started Kleopatra with an empty GNUPGHOME and imported 10 S/MIME certs at once (which spawns a gpgsm process each) with enabled logging.

Well, I deinstalled gpg 3.1.7 and reinstalled it. For some reason my two gnupg smart cards work fine, but my two Yubikeys cannot be detected anymore (no such device). But in the last weeks, they were deteced, only the switching between Yubikey and Smart Card made some trouble. That they cannot be recognized is new and makes real trouble. If you think it would maybe helpful, I can submit a scdaemon.log file by e-mail.
Apr 30 2019
So long I change between smart cards, I can do it multiple times. If a Yubikey is recognized and a smart card follows next it will not work. Most recently I face also problems to detect the Yubikey (Message: no such device), but Smart Cards still working fine.
Apr 26 2019
With the new keytreeview since 45f27eb3940617a8daff9b218b066ac482b9515d this is resolved.
This was fixed with c591cb20edfe70de29d343a6ce13c4b710bdeba6
@werner This issue also applies to GPA. Looking at the edit key interface I can't see how we can handle this. Am I overlooking something or do we just loose the error information / is it not emited by gnupg?
Apr 15 2019
Thanks for the report. Indeed I can also reproduce it with my own key. For signatures from expired / revoked / disabled keys it shows "No public key" because GnuPG returns the same error in that case. We can fix that by looking up the key ourself.
Apr 13 2019
By installation from version 2.3 an error occurred, I´ll send you a screenshot by e-mail. However, I have some comments to the current version which may also help: I have three keys, two on smart cards and one on a Yubikey. So long as only smart cards are used, it is no problem to change between the cards and they work fine. Problems occur, if a Yubikey comes in. (i) Not always a Yubikey is recognized by pressing F5. (ii) It the Yubikey is recognized and next a key from a smart card is needed, a computer restart is required.
I tried also command: gpgconf --kill gpg-agent
It was possible to change from smart card to Yubikey with the command. However, if the Yubikey 5 NFC was recognized, the only way to change back to the smart card was a restart of the computer.

Unsupported protocol still means something with your GnuPG installation is strange.
Whats surprising me most here is that Kleopatra works for you.
Apr 8 2019
I´ll give it a try for sure! Probaly next weekend, so my feedback will be sent next week. Please, keep the file open. THANKS
I'm interested if this works as you imagine with 2.3 I'm pretty sure werner worked on a problem like that.
After re-start, the smart card will be recognized in proper way and it works. I assume it has something to do with using Yubikey and smart cards with different keys alternatively. The Yubikey was not found originally, so I modified the following:
2.3 Release plan is around this summer. There will be a public beta sooner.
Kleopatra recognizes the smart card, shows the correct version number and keys in the "smart card - management" window. In the Keylist I can´t find the key. Currently GnuPG 2.2.15 is installed. Do you know then version 2.3. will be released?
For Kleopatra there is a "TODO" to better handle multiple smartcard readers. E.g. that you can have mutliple tabs in the smartcard management view.

Fixed with 3.1.7
Mar 27 2019
3.1.6 is released.

If the filename embedded in the encrypted message differs from the filename Kleopatra uses (which is derived from the file system filename) Kleopatra will now show the filename. This should cover the case where users receive an "Attachment.pgp" and do not know what that is.

Can you open the command line (cmd.exe) and execute there: "gpg --passwd 6B05B09F" ?
I've recently moved from the Windows 7 system where I saw the problem to a Windows 10 system where Kleopatra works. As Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft, there seems little point in working on this issue, so I'd be happy if it was closed as Won't Fix.

Hi - that did the trick. The linked gpgol.dll loads without any issues. However the decryption of e-Mails don't work. I get the
"OpenPGP Encrypted message (decryption not possible) Could not decrypt the data: Unsupported protocol" error.
Mar 19 2019
This is very strange, common to all the crashes in the log is that they happen while a keylisting is running and before the first key from that keylisting is returned. But this could be a red herring because the keylisting is always started immediately in a background thread and so it would be normal that if the crash occurs immediately that it would still be running. The keylisting code is extremely similar to Kleopatra though. So I don't understand why Kleopatra would then work for you.
Mar 18 2019
Since I configured call tracing the running O365 Client dies immediately after activating the addin. Same happens now if I activate the addin.
Anyways, here is the log.
Thanks for the report. Log looks not unusual.

It's better to have a new Task for this as I explain in T4402
I'm new here, therefore I'm unsure whether this posting is correct at this position.
Within my organisation we have ongoing troubles with the error described here, with windows version 3.1.3 there is no such button "force decryption" as documented here.
Can you help? Regards Karl

I'm not sure yet where the bug lives. It's either in GPGME's editkeyinteractor that ignores the error / cancel or in Kleopatra itself. I'll have to look into it. Btw. I do not think that this should have high priority because it is not a new regression and while it is a Bug and wrong it is not really harmful.
Hello,
I've opened T4395 for this to keep better track of it as this task was about another issue.
